Our Family Dental Practice
Our name is not by chance. It’s more than a name. It’s really something we chose for a reason. It’s who we want to be. We want to be a family dentist in every way. We want each person who walks through our doors to feel welcome, comfortable and cared for. We start by treating each employee as a family member. We look after each other and know that family always comes first even before work. Work is to support the most important unit in society, the family.
We hope that you feel this sense of family every time you come in and we hope our family spirit makes you want to come back and refer your closest friends to our dental practice.
Put simply, dental implants replace a tooth or several teeth. A dental implant will be inserted directly into the jaw-bone, replacing the root of the tooth, essentially becoming the new origin or strength and stabilization for that tooth. Implants are made from titanium. The titanium is intentionally porous, allowing it to become fused to the jawbone. After about 3-6 months it becomes part of the body and bone (tooth root) structure.
24 Hour Dental Emergency
We’re here for you 24/7. We have 3 practices each about 5 minutes apart. We rotate our hours, so you’re always taken care of no matter the time of day or night. With multiple locations at your disposal we can make sure you’ll have a convenient location with an outstanding doctor.
If there isn’t enough healthy bone structure remaining for the dental implant to be placed, a Bone Grafting is at times necessary for a successful Implant placement. In which case the doctor will take a special bone grafting material, and graft it onto your jaw bone. You will then have to wait, most likely several months, while the graft creates enough new, strong bone to make sure that the implant will be stable and secure. It is possible if you only need a minor graft that the procedure might be able to be done at the same time as the implant surgery, but your dentist will make the best, final decision. A successful bone graft allows your jaw bone to be strong enough to support your dental implant.
Our dental team has over 100 years of combined experience. What this means to you is that you’ll always have the very best dental care because our doctors will commonly chat (consult) with each other without egos in order to find the best way to handle any tricky dental situation. We lean on each other as family would. Every person in our office has years of experience and training in different disciplines and that level of training and experience is shared between all, lifting the entire practice and giving each patient optimal care. Our doctors have an educational based approach and they all choose to excel in every aspect of dentistry rather than being complacent and accepting the minimum to stay accredited – theory and application.
Dental Implant Specialists
Many doctors are not versed in single, much less multiple tooth implants or dental implants that are next to each other. This is because of the high skill level and correlation between teeth and jaw structure. Our doctors are highly skilled and can help you regain your smile, chewing strength, dependability and overall confidence.
We strongly believe in the community and we look for opportunities to get involved from an office level and as individuals. As individuals we donate hours as volunteers with local programs, teams, and community events. As a practice we work with larger community organizations such as Second Harvest, SARC (Support, Advocacy, & Resource Center), Cherry Creek Media and others. Some of the charity events we sponsor and participate in are;
- Hunger Hike: Hikers are sponsored to hike Tri-City’s famous Badger Mountain. All proceeds go to Second Harvest, who help feed the hungry in our community. https://2-harvest.org/
- Free Dental Day: Held annually, we open our doors and care for those without dental insurance nor funds but with dental needs, at no cost to them. https://keprtv.com/news/local/kennewick-dentists-are-offering-free-dental-work-for-a-day
- SARC (“Support, Advocacy & Resource Center”): SARC and Family First Dental have teamed up in a support program for victims of not only sexual violence but also identity theft, homicide, child physical abuse, elder abuse, assault, gang violence, fraud and human trafficking. http://supportadvocacyresourcecenter.org/about-sarc.html
- Cherry Creek Community Involvement Program: We team up with local radio station, Cherry Creek Media and provide air time to community organizations so they can get their message heard in the community.
- Local Sports Teams and Sponsorships: We are the proud sponsor of our local, championship, soccer team as well as a baseball team and multiple little leagues.
When we say the community is our family, we mean it!
We have also won “The Best Dentist in the Tri-cities” multiple times. Now just think of all the dental offices around town and consider you could come to the one voted as the very top! We’ve been awarded by the Tri-Cities Herald in a voting contest. We’re so grateful our patients have held us in high enough regard to take time and vote. Every people’s choice award we win means the world to us. It’s our patient’s way of letting us know we are taking the best care of them.
Dr. Mike Pratt
Mike is an expert and excels at oral surgeries. He has three essential elements which allow doctors to be great. 1. He cares deeply 2. He has advanced education 3. He has loads of on hand experience.
Dr. Pratt continues to strive in the theory and application of oral surgeries. Many doctors will seek to satisfy the minimum requirements of their discipline. Dr. Pratt, on the other hand, seeks continued education and stays on the forefront of all classes, trainings, techniques, and courses. You can feel confident in his schooling and abilities in procedures. In addition to diplomas Dr. Pratt has the real-life experience as he has performed hundreds of oral surgeries. This coupled with his chairside manner make him the best of the best. He is extremely involved in the personal care of each patient. He truly goes above and beyond to bring the best circumstances to each person; as if they were a family member.
Dr. Pratt is also an owner so his interest goes beyond what a typical dentist’s interests would. He is looking to build a family-oriented practice. This unique perspective adds to his level of care. He has an invested interest in every single patient on a personal level and the practice.
Dr. Jim Carey
Jim is a wonderful and caring man. He has been serving the community in a variety of ways, and although he is not practicing dentistry anymore, he is well versed and completely in tune with the pulse of dentistry and the practice in its entirety. His full-time focus is on building the practice. He has intimate knowledge of working with people and patients and has a tremendous knack for identifying and hiring the best of the best. He manages the practice from the patient’s point of view and he deeply cares about people and the atmosphere surrounding the practices. As you speak with and interact with out doctors, you’ll be thankful for Dr. Carey’s passion for hiring the most caring and accomplished people in the field. You’ll certainly feel the sense of service, experience and love from our family practice.
Dr. Nate Watkins
Nate is our resident pediatric dentist and you’ll know why immediately. Most would say he’s a big kid himself and he is so good at his niche it’s not uncommon for kids to ask to come back. Pediatric Dentistry is a delicate and special form of dentistry. Being great with kids is just a part of the equation. One needs to be able to work in an efficient way that allows your child to get the care they need in a comfortable, relaxing environment. Dr. Watkins has 4 kids (boys) of his own and loves to spend time with them and integrates them, seamlessly in activities and conversations.
Wisdom Teeth – (Tell me about reducing the cost and trouble because of how you can do everything in house. What does “all the doctors can handle any situation” mean? Why did I write that down?)
Dr. Mehak A. Zentz
Dr. Zentz was raised in the Seattle area where she attended the University of Washington for both undergraduate and graduate training. While attending the UW School of Dentistry, Mehak was recognized for her accomplishments in restorative dentistry and chosen for her skills by the faculty to be one of the teaching assistants to help shape the skills of younger dentists. She was also granted a scholarship by the National Health Service Corps for her willingness and desire to help serve patients in need. While in dental school, she met and began dating her now husband, Ryan, and following graduation they moved across the mountains to the Tri-Cities!
Dr. Zentz began her career working at a local Community Health Clinic where she not only received the Peak Performance in Patient Satisfaction Award, but thoroughly enjoyed serving her community and those most disadvantaged. Dr. Zentz always puts her patient care first.
Dr. Bradley M. Almond
Dr. Almond was born and raised in Idaho Falls, Idaho. After high school he completed his undergraduate studies at Idaho State University and graduated from the University Of Louisville School Of Dentistry in 2006. Dr. Almond practiced in Colorado for 10 years before moving to the Tri-Cities to be closer to family.
Dr. Almond recognizes that not everyone enjoys going to the dentist! His goal is to be gentle and make your experience as comfortable as possible.
Dr. Almond and his wife, Lisa, have 5 children. Some of his favorite activities include spending time with his family and playing basketball, racquetball, and golf.
Services We Offer At Family First Dental in Kennewick:
While there is general consensus in the dental community that digital x-rays are a better option for patients than conventional radiography x-rays, many dental offices yet have to adopt the new technology. We at Family First Dental have been fully outfitted with the latest in digital x-ray technology so we can pass on these benefits to you, our patient.
Some of the benefits of digital x-rays over conventional radiography include:
- Increased Patient Safety: Digital x-rays expose patients to 70% – 80% less radiation than conventional x-rays. This is hugely beneficial to the long-term health of patients, especially pregnant women, or patients who are already suffering from illness.
- Less Invasive: With digital x-rays dentists are able to more easily recognize oral issues, meaning less need for invasive investigation at the diagnosis stage.
- Immediate Results: With digital x-rays there are no processing times, meaning that the results are immediately available for viewing. Traditional radiography requires film to be processed, meaning that patients have to return for a follow-up appointment.
- Higher Quality Images: The superior imaging capabilities of digital x-rays makes diagnosis quicker and easier for dentists, translating to earlier detection rates for patients.
- Environmentally friendly: Digital x-rays are created and stored digitally, meaning less waste.
Wisdom Teeth and Extractions:
Anyone who’s ever experienced a tooth-ache knows how painful and crippling it can be. Anyone who’s needed a referral to an oral surgery specialist or has shopped around for one, knows how painful the cost can be. This is where Dr. Watkins and our experienced team of dentists come in. With over 100, combined years of experience you can rest assured that anything that can be done in-house, will be done in-house. From a simple root-tip removal to complex wisdom teeth extractions, Dr. Watkins and the team will care for you in a comfortable, relaxed environment while saving you money.
Our state of the art scanners allow us to offer digital impressions for your dental treatment. This technology can be used to provide the best crowns, bridges, implants, night guards, partial dentures, and even complete dentures…all without the “Goop” that patients seem to dread. Benefits of digital impressions include getting your crown and other prosthetics twice as fast, less adjustments to prosthetics due to the phenomenal accuracy of scans, meaning less trips to the office, and many more.
A crown is a dental restoration that completely covers the outside of a tooth that is cracked, broken, worn down, or severely decayed. Dental crowns are usually completed in two visits. During the first visit, the tooth is prepared (shaved down) and an impression is taken. A temporary crown is placed while the permanent crown is fabricated. During the second visit, the permanent crown is carefully fitted and then cemented into place.
Sometimes the final crown can be placed on the same day but other times a temporary crown will be placed while your final restoration is being created. Crowns often last a lifetime with proper care and oral hygiene.
Oral cancer screening
We provide an oral cancer screening during every exam for patients. Our doctors are trained in identifying any abnormalities and can reassure a patient that there are no apparent problems, or trigger early treatment if there are.
Replaces the tooth root. titanium metal instead of screw. Porous that gets inserted into the jaw bone becomes infused to the jaw bone and part of in 3-6 months. Single tooth implants and multiple implants. Many doctors do not have 4 correlating implants that can sustain the chewing and chopping of daily use.
Same family sprit between each other and the doctors and employees. Also the patients are treated like family. What the name means
100 years of experience. If one doctor needs help they can refer to each other and lean on each others experience and training.
Lots of special education and continued education on this specifically. Multiple per year. Choosing to vs minimum to stay accredited. Not just meet requirement which is the minimum. Plus he has done a lot ot them. One is theory and application and other is real life
