Frequently Asked Questions
Common Questions About General Dental Care
What services are included in general dentistry?
General dentistry usually includes the routine and restorative services that help patients maintain healthy teeth and gums over time. This may include dental exams, professional cleanings, digital X-rays, fillings, crowns, gum health evaluations, tooth pain assessments, preventive guidance, and treatment planning. At Family First Dental, our team also helps patients understand when additional options, such as periodontal treatment, dentures, implants, extractions, cosmetic dentistry, or Invisalign® treatment, may be appropriate for their needs.
How often should patients schedule dental cleanings?
Most patients benefit from scheduling a dental cleaning about every six months, but the right timing can depend on your gums, cavity risk, medical history, home care habits, and past dental concerns. Some patients with gum disease, heavy buildup, dry mouth, or recurring dental problems may need more frequent visits. Regular cleanings give our team a chance to remove plaque and tartar, monitor changes in your oral health, and help you stay ahead of problems that may not be painful yet.
Why do my gums bleed when I brush or floss?
Bleeding gums are often a sign of inflammation caused by plaque buildup along the gumline, but they can also be related to brushing technique, flossing habits, certain medications, pregnancy, tobacco use, or gum disease. If your gums bleed regularly, feel tender, look swollen, or pull away from your teeth, it is worth scheduling an exam. A dentist can check your gum health, look for signs of periodontal disease, and recommend the right level of cleaning or follow-up care.
What should I look for in a dentist near North Richland?
When choosing a dentist near North Richland, look for a team that offers clear communication, comfortable visits, convenient scheduling, and a broad range of services for different dental needs. It also helps to choose a dental office that explains treatment options clearly instead of rushing you through decisions. Family First Dental provides full-service dental support for children, teens, adults, and seniors, helping local patients get routine care, treatment planning, and ongoing smile support in one familiar place.
